How do you come up with a domain name?

I like to be relevant to my topic, research keyword with google keyword tool and then try and work it out from there. But of course alot of sites that are successful dont have anything reflecting what they are in their domain name. Its getting harder every day to find key word rich domain names I rekon.

Just had a look at their youTube video, they up a few hits already it says 432, and it said 422 only 2 days ago. This is a very interesting experiment freeautolinkbot :) The youTube stats arent showing current stats yet so it will be interesting when it does.

Hi no I'm not using this software, freeautolinkbot asked if a domain name was available which led to me finding a video in a google search that had relatively low hits so I wanted to test on it!. read the posts again :)

im not affiliated with this video in any way, the topic actually started on choosing a domain name.. :)

I was hoping the author of the software would join the forum for the free traffic going to his youTube video! ;) And I would like to hear discussion about software like this from anyone who has used it, but I will review programs like this and what they do for this web sites traffic in time too.

Hmm, so that's a bot to create backlinks to your site automatically? Is Google okay with that or could you get your account banned and de-indexed? I'm cautious, I've heard many horror stories of people suddenly getting everything taken out of Google for automating stuff and putting up backlinks all over the place at non-relevant sites. They get slapped with spamming. It could be very useful if it isn't against the terms of service, though!

As for the OP, I had a hard time coming up with the name of my site. I kind of decided to make it on the fly, I hadn't really put any serious consideration into it up to that point. So I didn't have anything planned out. I wanted to write in the TV niche because that's something I know a lot about, enjoy writing about and wouldn't run out of topics or ideas. Unfortunately, there are a ton of domains already taken in that niche, some of which are just being sat on. I finally broke out a thesaurus and saw that 'idiot box' is another word for TV and I'm a TV addict. So, Idiot Box Junkie was born! Instead of going with a domain name that was keyword specific, I went for something that was different and would stick out in someone's mind. I'm hoping that the content will pull in traffic for me.

Hey BonnyC thanks for pulling the thread back ... Just to be clear, I dont use this software. I dont recommend it as I've never tested it.. But I do share videos. And I do test programs etc... It's the only way to really know what works and what doesn't.

I really like the name of your site, have had a look at it and will be going back later for a bit of a read.! I know that original content mixed with a bit of knowledge of crawlers and indexing is key to ranking, as I have achieved results with this and 3 other web sites with NO backlinks at all. Just content, SEO, and fingers crossed :)

How many times I've heard from mum when I was a kid, 'Would you turn off that idiot box...' It's a nice domain name I really like it.

I know. It is becoming increasingly hard, now that people have started website/blog creation. When I had a blog back in the day, I just randomly came up with a name. But when a friend recently needed a domain name, let me tell you what I did:

1. Assess what the site is going to be about, its topic, niche and stuff.
2. Look for the words that define the niche - use a dictionary if you want to.
3. Check if it is available.
4. Try different combinations. If they do not work, look for synonyms using a Thesaurus.
