Originally I was looking at it as a source to make money after one of my articles got "scooped" and I thought it had been nicked LOL (it wasn't stolen - just "curated")
Long and short of it is that no - you can't make money directly, but my traffic spiked when my article was scooped..
Scoop has a pr6 and is like 1500 or so in alexa, so the backlinks will be really powerful.
On the free account you can choose 5 categories, mine will be making money, home business, pregnancy and not sure about the other 2, so if anyone has any good articles in those niches shoot me a link and I'll scoop you up
