oDesk

Unread postby » Sugarhill » Thu, 26 July 2012, 12:11 am | #1 of 18 |

I'm pretty sure this has been talked about, but my real question for those of you that use it is: what kind of jobs do you go for? I saw assignments on there that were requiring 10-30 hours a week. Do you go for those or the short term, quick one off jobs? What has the pay been like for you? How quickly are you paid in regards to the completed work? I'm also assuming that it's through PayPal?

There are ghostwriting assignments which are paid by the job, but the ones I looked into were paying very little in relation to the work they wanted completed. I did do some smaller assignments through oDesk, and yes, they do pay through PayPal. I was paid within a couple of days for the work I did. I canceled my membership with them as I have decided to venture in a different direction, but for the occasional gig they are alright. I do suggest you use caution and know how much work you will be doing for the money they will be paying. Each job is different, so read the terms and expectations carefully. Good luck! :)

Thanks. I have to take the tests for them. I probably wouldn't do any writing assignments for them. Right now, I'm still of the belief that the best pay would come from Cloud Crowd. I know the rates going in and all I would need is the topic. For me, that would be the best and most comfortable situation.

What I really want to do for them is the job answering the questions that Streak posted up. I think that would work best with the schedule that I want to maintain. Hopefully I will be able to take all of their tests later today.

Back when I've worked on Odesk, I've gotten some pretty decent jobs. Like I've gotten 2 temp jobs posting on craigslist. If you're someone that knows how to bypass all of craiglist's blockades, you can make good money doing that.

Thanks, but no thanks. I don't do much of anything with Craigslist and I really wouldn't stake income on it. As I said, I'm looking for something that will fit what I am currently doing and want to move forward with doing. The best thing I've heard of so far is the answering questions thing. I like the flexibility of it.

I've had a lot of pretty awesome paying jobs on oDesk. However, you have to be patient. You are also going to have to be willing to do a few low paying jobs to get some positive experience/feedback on the site.

I like the fact that you can cash out straight to a bank account as well as Paypal. The Paypal cash out is almost instant, the bank cash out takes 2-3 days depending on your bank. I cash out to my bank account unless I need the money fast and in a hurry. I wish the money did not have to sit for five days before you could touch it. But beggars can't be choosers I guess.

I don't have a problem with that. I can get paid once a week. It actually makes it easier for budgeting. Not to mention, there are plenty of legal places to get money by the end of the day. I really need to fill out this profile and do these tests that they want me to do. I really wasn't expecting all of that. All I want is one particular job.

Yeah, all of the "have to do" on the site is part of what makes it legit. I've not actually done too many of the tests on the site myself. What tests you have to do really depend on the employers. Some of them want you to have done specific tests and others do not really care. Just depends, really.

Thus far, there are only two tests up there for me to take. I need to sit down and really read all of what they are requesting as the readiness test mentioned something about being open book. I want to just take it and wing it, but I'd have to wait 30 days if I don't pass it or score high enough, so I won't willfully do something that stupid.

Take your time with the tests. They look great on your profile. The toughest thing for you on oDesk will be getting those first jobs. Some of the wages are almost slave like, but you need the experience and the boost to your reputation.

Okay, thanks trident. I had a feeling that would be the case. I'll try to get to them sooner than later and then see what happens from there. Fortunately, they aren't the first place that I found online, so if it doesn't work out, I'll be okay and keep it moving.

Not sure if you've take the time to take the oDesk readiness test yet, but this will help:

The test is not that hard to begin with. But, who does not love a cheat sheet.

See, I knew there was a reason as to why I was being lazy and hadn't gotten around to it. You were on your way with a cheat sheet. Thank you, Streak!

Baha. Happy to help! Everyone I know on oDesk used that to pass the readiness test. I did not even really read the questions. I am not really sure what the point of the test is. I think it is meant to inform. It is mostly useless information.

Well, I was putting it off because I only want one job, the one that you have. I may have even missed their latest hiring spree, but I'll have it done for the next go round if I did. Thanks again.

What are some of the road blocks that Craigslist use to keep from paying you. I tried them awhile back such as posting on there and I never gotten any place with them. So spill the beans here so we will all know what to look out for. I love to write and it seems you can't get enough information to succeed at all with them.

I don't use oDesk but SEOclerks, it's pretty much the same but SEOclerks it better in my opinion. As for your question, I mainly do on page SEO and charge around $20 an hour, I've got some long term and some short term projects, so a mixture of both. I just take whatever I can get my hands on. :)

No doubt oDesk is the best of all outsourcing sites. There are lots of jobs available here. I personally prefer SEO and Marketing Jobs. And I use payoneer as quick payment method.
