Burning Monolith Prep: Optimizing Runs for Crisis Fragme

Unread postby » elting » Wed, 18 June 2025, 6:35 am | #1 of 1  Reply

Farming Crisis Fragments efficiently is a critical step in progressing through Path of Exile 2’s endgame, as these fragments are required to unlock the Burning Monolith and challenge the Arbiter of Ash, one of the game’s toughest bosses. There are three types of Crisis Fragments—Ancient, Faded, and Weathered—each dropped by bosses inside special map areas called Citadels. To maximize your farming success, understanding how to increase fragment drops and optimize your Atlas strategy is essential.

Citadels become accessible once you reach Tier 15 Waystones on the Atlas. These unique map zones feature challenging bosses that drop Crisis Fragments upon defeat. However, simply running Citadels is not enough; the quantity of fragments you receive depends heavily on your Waystone Drop Chance, a stat that can be significantly increased through crafting and passive skill investments.

A key method to boost fragment drops is crafting Waystones with suffix modifiers. Using a Vaal Orb on a Waystone can corrupt it to have six suffix mods instead of the usual three, which dramatically increases the Waystone Drop Chance. While this greatly enhances the number of fragments dropped per Citadel boss kill, it also adds difficult negative modifiers to the map, making encounters more challenging. Therefore, it’s important to ensure your build can handle these harder maps before attempting six-suffix Waystones.

Investing Atlas passive skill points into nodes that increase Waystone Modifier Effect and Waystone Drop Chance further amplifies your fragment yield. Breakpoints around 300% Waystone Drop Chance increase the chance of receiving two fragments per boss kill, while reaching 750% to 900% can yield three or even four fragments. This scaling can turn each Citadel run into a highly profitable endeavor, either for personal progression or trading.

Efficient Citadel farming also involves smart map exploration. Revealing new areas and unlocking towers increases the chance of spawning Citadels on the Atlas. Learning to recognize Citadel locations by their colored beams—red for Stone, blue for Iron, and orange for Copper—helps you prioritize routes and clear them quickly. Speed is important; faster runs mean more Citadels discovered and cleared per hour, maximizing your fragment acquisition.

Because high Waystone Drop Chance maps come with tough modifiers, some players opt to farm Citadels in groups or hire carry services to safely and quickly clear bosses. This can be especially helpful if your build struggles with the increased difficulty.

Finally, Weathered Crisis Fragment are valuable trade commodities, often selling for hundreds of Exalted Orbs. Whether you keep them to unlock the Burning Monolith or sell them to fund other builds, farming fragments efficiently is both a progression and economic strategy.

To farm Crisis Fragments effectively in Path of Exile 2, focus on unlocking Tier 15 Waystones to access Citadels, craft and corrupt Waystones to maximize Waystone Drop Chance, invest in Atlas passive nodes that boost fragment yield, explore the Atlas strategically to find Citadels quickly, and prepare your build for challenging maps. This approach accelerates your path to the Arbiter of Ash fight and ensures a steady income of valuable fragments for trade or personal use.
