How to get 3D working on my projector??

The com is attached to a Onkyo receiver which is then linked via HDMI to my acer 1080p 3D projector~~~ How can i get 3D to work what exactly do i need? Can i just buy a 20 dollar pair of active 3d glasses and be good to go?
