This video was a great education for me, Matt Cutts talks a bit about hummingbird at 6:30 into the video and heaps of other really cool Googley stuff too so I would reckon it's worth watching the whole thing.

Hello....Google Hummingbird algorithm update is all about improving results for "conversational search", instead of just looking for key words it helps user search specific questions.This concept is called semantic search.

Hummingbird was an algorithm launched by google, according to this algorithm, which was a major change in the search engine, now google just don't look at the keywords independently, it just try to figure out what the searchers intent is, and the google gives the search results according to the user intent, it is also called semantic search. Now the search engine works for meaning of the sentence rather than keywords.
